Definition of Human Resource Management

Human resource management as the name suggests is a department in any organization which deals with company’s employees from hiring (entry) till their leaving the organization. It is responsible to perform all the duties related to employees during their tenure in their organization and sometimes even afterwards.

Brief Explanation of Human Resource Management

Following are the tasks Human Resource Department is responsible of:

  • Job/vacancy add posting
  • Receiving CVs to shortlisting
  • Interviewing and shortlisting (commonly known as recruitment process)
  • Salary negotiations
  • Taking selected candidate onboard
  • Training and development of employees on job
  • Payroll
  • Performance evaluations and thus promotions
  • Transfers and allocations
  • Generating Certificates or letters like promotions, resignation, reallocation etc.

Earlier Human Resource department duties were considered to be general and hence HR department was not considered to be playing an important role in development of an organization. But now as organizations have realized the importance of its work force and especially a good work force HR has gained its relevant important position in the business.

Because it is this department which is responsible to attract and induct relevant and intelligent talent to work for the organization, it is responsible to create company’s culture and environment and can be said to be the brand Ambassadors of the company.

HRM like any other department runs on proper software as well. SAP and oracle have their separate modules for HRM where employee record, movements, promotions and information is kept.

The new trend regarding HR services which have been observed is the outsourcing of this department. In this scenario whole of the HR Department and its functions are outsourced to another HR company on either a lump sum amount or on head count basis.

The most advantageous point of this field is valid promotions and developments and public relations PR.
